Local arts groups get grants from state council

Two Rome arts groups have received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts.
They are:
• Rome Art & Community Center: $15,000 for general operation support. The money will be used to assist with staff salaries, daily operations, and core programs including gallery exhibitions, children’s programming including summer arts camp, free adult programs, cultural activities, and community-oriented events/programs.
• Capitol Theatre: $3,500 to defray the cost of film rentals, licensing, and promotion for Capitolfest.
On Friday, the council announced it had awarded $36 million in 1,899 grants to 1,242 state non-profit organizations. Grants for groups around Oneida County total $167,700. The council awards grants in 16 program areas representing a cross-section of artistic disciplines and funding goals.
Other area groups receiving money were:
• Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Utica: $60,000 to help fund “Monet to Mattisse,” an exhibition of French modernist paintings later this year.
• Munson-Williams-Proctor: $47,500 for general support. The museum sought funding to support its strategic goals: actively engaging audiences through exhibitions, innovative approaches to learning and vibrant programs; exceeding professional standards and practices in collections care and development; and enhancing local and regional quality of life.
• Munson-Williams-Proctor: $9,500 for the MWPAI Performing Arts Series. Funding would be used in support of artists fees and related expenses.
• Sculpture Space, Inc., Utica: $18,700 for the addition of a part-time development associate.
• Sculpture Space: $8,000 for artist-in-residence program.Sculpture Space hosts artists to come to Utica to create new work and connect with the community for two months.
• Chamber Music Society of Utica: $3,000 for chamber music concerts and school outreach. In its 75th season, the society of Utica presents five concerts by renowned ensembles including the Minguet String Quartet, the Doric String Quartet, “Rebel,” the Boston Piano Trio, and the Kremlin chamber Orchestra, which will also give a school outreach presentation.
• Utica College: $2,500 for the Ruth and Harry Jackson Lunch Hour Series.
