Area non-profits came together this morning to take part in a unique training workshop. The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties brought in a philanthropic expert to share tips about increasing donors in a tight economy, while motivating board members to participate in major fundraising events. The presenter says when it comes to donating, it's all about how you ask.
"They go out and ask people for gifts of $5, $10, $15, $1000, even $1 million dollars and many volunteers are afraid to do that. And I've developed a methodology to help them overcome their fears. Donors wants to be approached in a proper way. They don't want to be solicited. They want to be invited to be a part of something bigger than themselves," says Jim Donovan, author and philanthropic expert.
Jim Donovan, author of "Take The Fear Out Of Asking For Major Gifts" led the presentation.
