The car company is awarding 100 vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations over the course of 50 days, with two winners selected each day based on votes from the public. The local zoo was announced as a finalist in the contest in September, and was one of the top vote recipients Saturday, earning it one of the 100 vehicles.
In it's plug on the contest page, the zoo said it served more than 20,000 children and nearly 11,000 adults in 12 counties with its ZooMobile last year.
But, "for all the people listed above who received education, several program invitations had to be denied due to maximum use of our one current ZooMobile," zoo officials wrote.
The prize, which will be awarded pending final verification, according to Toyota's website, will help the zoo expand the reach of its education program. The zoo is the first finalist from New York state to win one of the vehicles.
